Copper loads can contain very different amounts of recoverable metal. Sorting before contacting a buyer helps households, electricians, MEP contractors, workshops and factories describe a load accurately and avoid surprises during inspection.
Separate copper from other metals
Keep copper apart from aluminium, brass, steel, motors and general waste. A magnet can identify some ferrous attachments, but it cannot confirm a copper grade. Never burn insulation or use unsafe chemicals.
Group copper by form and condition
Bare wire and clean conductor
Keep clean uncoated conductor separate from tinned, painted, oxidised or insulated wire. Show its thickness and representative cut ends.
Insulated cable
Separate copper cable from aluminium cable, armoured cable and data cable. Conductor type, cross-section, insulation and attachments affect recoverable content.
Pipe, sheet and busbar
Keep clean offcuts apart from soldered, painted or contaminated pieces. Remove only attachments that can be handled safely and lawfully.
Motors and equipment
A complete motor or compressor is not solid copper. Photograph the casing and nameplate. Refrigerants, oils and hazardous components require qualified handling.
Send a useful evidence set
- one wide photo of the whole quantity;
- close-ups of cut ends and typical pieces;
- an honest weight, item or container estimate;
- pickup location and access details;
- labour, lifting or permit requirements.
Photos support an initial assessment; final value depends on verified grade, measured quantity, contamination, loading and current market conditions.
