Aluminium is easy to mix with coatings, fasteners, glass, rubber and other alloys. A fabrication shop may have clean extrusion while a renovation produces painted frames with many attachments. Honest separation by form, known source and contamination makes assessment clearer.
Common aluminium groups
Extrusion and fabrication offcuts
Keep clean profiles and production offcuts away from steel, plastic and sweepings. Retain alloy labels or production records where available.
Window and door frames
Frames may contain glass, gaskets, locks, hinges, sealant and steel screws. Do not describe them as clean extrusion until attachments are removed. Never smash glass to prepare scrap.
Sheet, cladding and composite panels
Solid sheet differs from composite panel. Photograph edges and reverse surfaces so insulation, adhesive cores and subframes are visible.
Cast aluminium and wheels
Group castings, housings and alloy wheels separately. Tyres, valves, weights and steel inserts add handling.
A practical sorting layout
- clean extrusion and known offcuts;
- painted profiles and prepared frames;
- sheet, cladding and plate;
- castings and wheels;
- mixed or uncertain aluminium-bearing items.
Alloy, cleanliness, attachments, moisture, quantity, packaging, loading and distance affect an assessment. A single online aluminium price cannot describe every load.
